As the Tokyo 2020 Olympics come to an end, we get to experience the worst part: realizing it’s over. Luckily, we can reminisce on all the best moments of the games for years to come - and this year’s Olympics was exciting from start to finish, with unexpected twists and turns every second. Here are just a few of our favorite moments!

TOKYO, July 27, 2021 – Despite unprecedented adversity, a gritty team effort catapulted the U.S. women’s team to a second-place finish at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games Tuesday at the Ariake Gymnastics Centre. After veteran Olympic champion Simone Biles of Spring, Texas, withdrew from the competition following the first rotation, the remaining team members – Jordan Chiles of Vancouver, Wash., Sunisa Lee of St. Paul, Minn., and Grace McCallum of Isanti, Minn. – banded together to secure the silver medal for the U.S.

Katelyn Jong's apprehensiveness on beam in her early days would not be the best indicator of the junior elite gymnast that she would become today. Her transformation is the sum of incremental improvements and a one step at a time mentality.

The five-time Olympic medalist finished first in the two-day competition overall, with a score of 118.098. Biles actually finished second on day two to Suni Lee with a 57.533, but again, won the overall meet with 118.098.

There’s nothing like being in an arena when Simone Biles's name is announced. Saving her Double Pike Yurchenko for the Olympics, Biles pulled out her Cheng and Amanar for the night. The vault began with the Cheng with a ridiculously far landing and ended with a stratospheric Amanar, scoring 15.66. She finished with a 60.565, the highest score since World's qualification 2018!

ST. LOUIS, June 25, 2021 – Seven-time national champion Simone Biles of Spring, Texas/World Champions Centre will take a nearly three-point lead into Day 2 of the ongoing U.S. Olympic Team Trials. Biles’ 60.565 across four rotations Friday evening at The Dome in St. Louis has her poised to claim one of two automatic spots – awarded to the top-two all-around finishers – for the U.S. women’s team at the upcoming Tokyo Olympics. Sunisa Lee of St. Paul, Minn./Midwest Gymnastics Center (57.666) and Biles’ WCC teammate Jordan Chiles of Vancouver, Wash. (57.132) sit second and third at the midway point. MyKayla Skinner of Gilbert, Ariz./Desert Lights Gymnastics (56.598) and Grace McCallum of Isanti, Minn./Twin City Twisters (56.498) rounded out the top five.

Rolling into the 2021 Olympic Trials, the only thing we know for sure is that Simone Biles, barring an alien invasion, is going to come in first place and lead the team. Besides that, anything could happen! What we do know is that the top two all-arounders at trials are automatically placed on the team, so everyone will be fighting for that second spot. Land below second place, and it’s up to Tom Forster and the selection committee who they choose to put onto the coveted four-person Olympic team, who is going as alternates, and who misses the team completely.

With multiple nights of competition and so many great gymnasts, there were so many moments to catch up on from this weekend at the 2021 U.S. Championships. Here are just 10 of the big moments that stood out from the few days of competition.

FORT WORTH, Texas, June 6, 2021 – Simone Biles of Spring, Texas/World Champions Centre claimed another spot in the record books Sunday at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas, notching a seventh U.S. senior women’s all-around title – the most in history. Biles (119.650) ran away from the competition on Day 2, stretching a 2.2-point lead to nearly five full points. Sunisa Lee of St. Paul, Minn./Midwest Gymnastics Center finished second with a 114.950, and Biles’ World Champions Centre teammate Jordan Chiles (114.450) rounded out the top three. Biles also claimed the top spots on vault (31.025), balance beam (29.250) and floor exercise (29.600). Lee notched the national title on uneven bars with a 30.200.

FORT WORTH, Texas, June 4, 2021 – Simone Biles of Spring, Texas/World Champions Centre will take a full two-point lead into day two of the senior women’s all-around competition at the 2021 U.S. Gymnastics Championships. The six-time U.S. national champion posted a 59.550 Friday at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas, outpacing her 2019 World Championships all-around total by more than half of a point. Sunisa Lee of St. Paul, Minn./Midwest Gymnastics Center (57.350) and Jordan Chiles of Spring, Texas/World Champions Center (56.900) were second and third, respectively.

The U.S. Championships are almost here, the final stepping stone to the Olympic Trials. U.S. Championships, also referred to as nationals, showcases the best of the best in U.S. gymnastics, and will be an exciting weekend of today’s biggest names throwing their best routines.

INDIANAPOLIS, May 22, 2021 – Reigning World champion Simone Biles of Spring, Texas/World Champions Centre returned to competition for the first time in more than a year in a half Saturday night at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis. The four-time Olympic gold medalist edged teammate Jordan Chiles of Spring, Texas/World Champions Centre in successful defense of her 2019 GK U.S. Classic all-around title. Along the way, Biles debuted the long-anticipated Yurchenko double pike vault, becoming the first woman to land the high-difficulty skill in competition.

The GK U.S. Classic is the kickoff event for the 2021 summer Olympic season. The event set for Saturday, May 22, is the first in the home stretch for the top female gymnasts leading up to the trials. The meet also serves as the final opportunity for female gymnasts to qualify for the 2021 U.S. Gymnastics Championships, held June 3-6 in Fort Worth, Texas.

INDIANAPOLIS, May 13, 2021 – Many of the nation’s top women’s artistic gymnasts are set to face off May 21-22 at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis. The 2021 GK U.S. Classic features junior and senior competitions and will be headlined by numerous Olympic medalists and World champions. The event also serves as the final opportunity for female gymnasts to qualify to the 2021 U.S. Gymnastics Championships, which will be held June 3-6 in Fort Worth, Texas. The 2021 GK Hopes Championships will be held in conjunction with the GK U.S. Classic and features rising stars from the women’s artistic discipline. The annual event marks the end of the 2021 Hopes season.

If gymnastics is the highest you can get to flying, then gymnasts are the superheroes of sports. Like superheroes, gymnasts don their own unique kind of armor: leotards. Superhero costumes and gymnastics leotards alike allow for specialized unique movement, and gymnasts have even worn leotards inspired by superheroes.
