In the inaugural Four on the Floor final of the NCAA Women's Gymnastics Championships, the Oklahoma Sooners won the team title and are back on top after scoring a huge 198.3375. The LSU Tigers had another runner-up finish and earned their highest NCAA Championship score with a 197.8250 ahead of last year's champion UCLA Bruins, who were in third with a 197.5375. The Denver Pioneers concluded their season with a fourth-place finish, their best ever final ranking in program history, with a 197.0000.

After placing in the top two in their respective semifinals, UCLA, LSU, Oklahoma, and Denver have qualified to the first Four on the Floor NCAA Women's Gymnastics Championship final. In semifinal I, UCLA finished in first with a 197.6750, and LSU finished in second with a 197.5125. In semifinal II, Oklahoma won with a 197.8500 while Denver came in second with a 197.0375.

In the return of this ongoing series, FloGymnastics features gymnasts who are in their final collegiate season. The final gymnast to be featured this season is the 2019 SEC Gymnast of the Year, LSU's Sarah Finnegan.

The SEC is known for having the top gymnastics teams in the NCAA, and with that comes some of the top individual gymnasts. Now that the NCAA Championships will only include eight teams instead of 12, some teams that are used to contending and advancing to NCAAs will end up sending only individual gymnasts to the national postseason. Therefore individual competition may be more competitive than ever before, especially in the ultra-competitive SEC.

In our fourth and final installment on the most difficulty in the 2018 NCAA Super Six, we are taking a look at vault. Specifically, we're analyzing which teams had the most 10.0 start value vaults. In 2016, the Yurchenko full was devalued to a 9.95 start value, and many teams since then have reacted by upping the difficulty of the vaults their gymnasts compete. We have seen more Yurchenko 1.5s and even Yurchenko doubles. 

For the third installment in our series on the most difficulty in the 2018 NCAA Super Six, we're taking a look at floor exercise. Floor scores are calculated similarly to bars and beam scores: Gymnasts start from a 9.5 and add in difficulty value and connection value in order to get to a 10.0 start value. Gymnasts can add difficulty by performing "E" skills (worth 0.20) and "D" skills (worth 0.10). 

Today, we are taking another look at which teams had the most difficulty in their lineups at the Super Six championships, focusing this time on balance beam. As we mentioned in our previous look at the uneven bars, gymnasts start from a 9.5 difficulty level on bars, beam, and floor, and they are required to add bonus points to get to a 10.0 start value.

In NCAA gymnastics, execution is paramount to an athlete’s success on the floor, thanks in large part to the use of the 10.0 system. Gymnasts strive for perfection and look to minimize form deductions as much as possible, and difficulty often takes a back seat as a result.

Postseason action kicks up this weekend with conference championships taking place across the board. 

The regular season has come to a close, with teams and gymnasts putting together their best stuff ahead of conference championship weekend and, after that, regionals. From California to the Midwest to Alabama, the routines were on point over the weekend. Check out our recap below.

Nebraska had a solid meet at the Elevate the Stage in Augusta, Georgia, on Friday night and earned the quad-meet win with a 196.700 against Stanford (195.925), Illinois (195.900), and Georgia (195.825). Taylor Houchin posted a 9.900 to share second place on bars and the Huskers posted a 49.300 event total. Nebraska didn’t score below a 9.800 on bars.

In a battle between the top two teams in the Pac-12, it came down to the final rotation. UCLA had the edge early on vault and maintained the lead through the second rotation after some uncharacteristic mistakes from both squads. But Utah cut down the lead in the third rotation, bolstered by MyKayla Skinner’s 9.975 on floor exercise to tie the meet, and earned the win in the final rotation 197.550 to 197.425.

Catch up on all of the week three action as the Oklahoma Sooners took on Georgia and then Iowa State and Texas Women’s University in two meets. LSU and Alabama battled in SEC action, while UCLA welcomed back Madison Kocian in a road win against Arizona. Elizabeth Price posted another excellent all-around meet and Minnesota freshman Lexy Ramler has been stellar on beam for the Gophers.

The second week of the NCAA season kicks off on Friday night with a big matchup between LSU and Florida. Big Ten rivals Michigan and Ohio State clash on Saturday, and then it’s a Pac-12 showdown as Stanford, Utah, UCLA, and Washington take to the floor in the Elevate the Stage meet in Reno. 

The NCAA gymnastics season kicked off on January 5 with a slew of action throughout the weekend. LSU and Utah paced the rest of the country as the only schools to open the season with a 197 or better, and a number of freshmen made their collegiate debuts. Catch up on the rest of the action.
