7 U.S. Gymnasts Capture 15 Medals At 2021 Junior Pan American Championships
Seven U.S. gymnasts capture 15 medals during final day of 2021 Junior Pan American Championships.
GUADALAJARA, Mexico, June 21, 2021 - U.S. gymnasts competing at the 2021 Junior Pan American Championships added to their collection of hardware during Sunday's event finals, earning 15 medals across the men's and women's divisions.
All-around champions Katelyn Jong of Allen, Texas/Metroplex Gymnastics and Fred Richard of Stoughton, Mass./Massachusetts Elite Gymnastics Academy each claimed two additional gold medals on the final day of competition. Arun Chhetri of Culver City, Calif./Gymnastics Olympica USA, Kailin Chio of Henderson, Nev./Gymcats Gymnastics, Madray Johnson of Dallas, Texas/WOGA Gymnastics, Ian Lasic-Ellis of Dover, Mass./Massachusetts Elite Gymnastics Academy and Kaliya Lincoln of Frisco, Texas/WOGA Gymnastics also added to the medal tally.
On the men's side, Richard earned event titles on vault (13.850) and horizontal bar (13.234) and added a silver on floor exercise (13.400) and a bronze on still rings (12.800). Lasic-Ellis took the top spot on parallel bars with a 13.200, while Chhetri finished second on still rings (12.834) and third on pommel horse (12.367). Colombia's Angel Barajas posted the day's high score on pommel horse with a 12.634. Jabiel Polanco of the Dominican Republic topped the field on still rings with a 13.134, and Yuri Monteverde, representing Brazil, took gold on floor exercise with a 13.500.
The U.S. women once again swept the podium, earning five gold and three silver medals on the day. Jong delivered high scores on vault (13.784) and uneven bars (13.567) and was second on balance beam with a 12.034. Lincoln matched Jong's first-place finish on vault, also earning a 13.784, and took the top spot on floor exercise with a 13.800. Johnson claimed the balance beam title with a 13.400 and added a silver on uneven bars with a 12.134. Chio captured the silver medal on floor exercise, notching a 13.334.
