Wolverines Makes History to Win Big 10 Championships


Michigan wins the Big 10 Championship out of the afternoon session with a 197.55!

Session 1:
The afternoon session featured Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State and Iowa.

The Michigan Wolverines posted a huge team score out of session 1 of the Big 10 Championships with a 197.55. Michigan finished the meet on floor where they posted a huge 49.7. Highlighted by a perfect 10 from senior Joanna Sampson! Michigan was able to put last weekend’s beam mishaps behind them as they hit 6 for 6 in today’s meet to score a 49.1. Joanna Sampson posted a 39.550 in the AA for the Wolverines. Austin Sheppard stuck another sky high vault, to score a 9.95.



Session 2:

The evening session featured Nebraska, Penn State, Illinois, and Minnesota. Te
ams in the evening session had a high score to beat from Michigan’s performance in the afternoon session.

Nebraska posted the highest team score in the evening session, 196.55. Nebraska posted a huge team score on floor of a 49.5 and was highlighted with a 10.0 from Emily Wong, to take home the floor title. Nebraska finished 2nd place as a team to snap their championship run.

Minnesota was led by Lindsay Mable who took home the all-around title with a 39.65. She scored a perfect 10 on vault to also take home the vault title. Minnesota had strong performance on vault, 49.375 and floor, 49.30. Minnesota finished with a team total of 196.675 good for 3rd place!

Illinois qualified to the evening session for the first time in program history. The Illini had a solid meet scoring a 196.625. Illinois came in 4th place tonight at the championships. Illinois finished strong scoring their highest event score on floor, 49.325.

The host team, Penn State finished tonight’s meet in 5th place, scoring a 196.475. The Nittany Lions lead the evening session going into the last event, where they unfortunately had to count a fall. Penn State had their strongest rotation on their first event, floor with a 49.325.
