The No. 6 Georgia Gym Dogs welcomed in the No. 20 Kentucky Wildcats on Saturday afternoon for an SEC meet. Georgia with a dominate win 197.30 to 190.90 over the visiting Wildcats. 

Georgia started the meet posting their highest vault score of the year with a 49.425. Chelsea Davis is continuing to impress in the leadoff spot where she posted a 9.875. Both Brandie Jay and Brittany Rogers upgraded their vaults this week to a yurchenko 1.5. Jay posting a 9.85 and Rogers 9.825. Lindsey Cheek took home the vault title with a 9.95 with a gorgeous stuck landing.  

Georgia continued to prove why they are ranked #1 on bars, with a 49.45 this week. Lindsay Cheek also took home the bars title with a 9.95. Brandie Jay led off the rotation with a career high, 9.9. Chelsea Davis in the anchor spot continues to shine to post a 9.925.

With a new beam lineup, Georgia was able to hit 6 for 6 for the first time this season, to post a 49.15. Mary Beth Box for the first time in the leadoff spot got the Gym Dogs off to a strong start with a 9.85. Sarah Persinger saw action for the first time in 2014 posting a 9.725 on beam. Lindsay Cheek posted another impressive score on beam, 9.875, making that only the 5th routine this year under a 9.9. Cheek’s 9.875 makes her three for three tonight in event titles, also winning the balance beam.

Kaylan Earls started the Gym Dogs off on floor with a strong routine and was rewarded with a career high of 9.9. Brandie Jay upgrading her floor routine was able to tie her season and high of 9.95. The Gym Dogs closed out the meet as a team posting a floor score of 49.275.

The Georgia Gym Dogs finished with a 197.3 to seal a huge victory over Kentucky who posted a 190.90. Georgia moves to 2-1 in the SEC and 3-3 overall.


Kentucky began the meet on bars where they had to count two falls, with a team score of 47.325. Amy Roemmele posted the high score of 9.825 to highlight the event for the Wildcats.

Kentucky rebounded on vault with six solid vaults to total a 48.85. Shannon Mitchell with a strong vault posted a team high, 9.85. Kenzie Hedges followed with a 9.825.

With their first 49.0 event of the meet, Kentucky had a strong floor rotation. Posting four scores of 9.8 or higher Kentucky was looking to rebound from a slow start to the meet. Shelby Hilton posting the teams highest score of 9.825.

Kentucky’s struggles continued on the balance beam having to count four falls to give them a disappointing 45.725. Marissa Beucler hit her beam routine for the Wildcats to post a 9.675.

Impressive Numbers

Senior Lindsay Cheek is off to the best start of her career. Cheek has posted a 9.9 or higher in 13 of 18 routines this season. Cheek is in the lineup on three events for the Gym Dogs; vault, bars and beam. In this meet alone Lindsay took home the event title on every event she competed on; vault (9.95), bars (9.95) and beam (9.875). This season Cheek has set new career highs on vault and bars of 9.975, along with a 9.95 on beam. Cheek has been impressive this season taking home 11 event titles for the Gym Dogs.

The Georgia Gym Dogs will travel to Tuscaloosa to take on their SEC rivals, the Alabama Crimson Tide. Kentucky will be back home to welcome in the No. 1 ranked Florida Gators. The Wildcats will need to rebound quickly from this week’s loss in order to have a chance against the reigning national champions next weekend.
