Training Day 3 Recap - USA, China, Russia, Italy, and Germany
Here’s what you need to know about training day 3 from American individuals, team China, Russia, Italy, and Germany
USA
The U.S. Individuals trained four events this morning. On floor, we caught a glimpse of Tori Tatum’s tumbling passes—a huge tucked full-in, 2.5 twist to front pike, and a front double full punch pike.
Sydney Barros threw a huge double Arabian to stag jump, a double layout, and a double pike. So the U.S. will look for individual floor medals.
Ragan Smith, a firecracker on every event, showed a bar set with a toe-full to toe-½ to Tkatchev, and a huge stalder Tkatchev to Pac, plus a full-in dismount.
Alyona Shchennikova brought her long lines and inbar work to training today. We saw an inbar toe-full to Shaposh to Tkatchev. Emma Malabuyo looked as clean and crisp as ever on bars today. She showed her full-twisting double layout dismount. Adeline Kenlin also cranked some inbar work along with her stalder Shaposh and double front ½-out dismount.
Olivia Dunne is ready for competition. She trained a Maloney to Gienger and a great piked Jaeger.
On beam, Kenlin looked ready to go, straight-up hitting her beam routine. She nailed her handspring step-out to handspring to layout.
Dunne showed gorgeous choreography on beam, along with a stuck handspring step out loso - loso, and a back handspring step-out back handspring double-tuck.
On vault, Malabuyo, Shchennikova, and Grace McCallum showed solid Y-2/1s. McCallum also trained her Y-½-on, tuck ½.
Italy
The Italian juniors trained today, and they look like they’re ready to get on the podium.
Asia D'Amato can vault. She does a Y-2/1 and a big Y-½ on, layout ½. She also has some nice bar sequences with L-grip giants to a double-front dismount.
Last year’s junior bar champ, Elisa Iorio is back on the scene and looking for a repeat win. Her stalder-½ to straddle-back-½ and L-grip double-front are wild for a junior.
Alessia Federici trained an L-grip Jaeger and a stalder-full to double pike.
Giorgia Villa is a junior with serious senior-level skills. She showed the longest bar combo ever (not actually, but you get it): stalder Tkatchev to Pac to Maloney to stalder-½ to straddle-back ½… and that’s just the beginning.
Federici showed beam set highlighted by a front handspring step-out to front tuck on beam and a double turn. She also does a backward roll to handstand, you know, on the beam. Villa also showed a beam routine with lovely leaps and she also did the backward roll. It’s a thing now.
Russia
Melnikova turned heads on floor with a full twisting double layout, a huge double layout, and front tuck through to double-tuck. She gets OFF the table on her Y-2/1, and Y-½-on Layout ½-off, bouncing back out of both vaults.
Russia’s bars today was basically a master class on technique, starting with Melnikova. Her inbar toe-½ to piked Jaeger is Sub. Lime.
Iliankova also brings fire and flair to Russian bars, opening with a piked Hindorff, Maloney to uprise free-hip ½ to Pac ½.
Uliana Perebinosova showed up to bars with her Tweddle to Bhardwaj combo, and stalder full to Tkatchev to Pac.
Kseniia Klimenko should be a solid anchor for the Russian Juniors. She’s got great handstands and pirouettes on bars and a big piked Jaeger to Pac. Her bar routine is already packed with big transitions and releases and a textbook double-front ½ out.
Elena Gerasimova, though new to the international stage, brings that impeccable Russian bar swing and a technically strong routine.
China
The Chinese juniors didn't bring too much difficulty on floor. Yin Sisi, He Licheng, Gian Xuejia, and Guo Fanting all showed triple-fulls, 2.5 to font pikes, double tucks, and double-fulls.
On vault, we saw a nice Tsuk 2/2 from Liu Jieyu and a Yurchenko full from Fanting.
Qian Xuejia showed a beam routine with her super springy handspring step-out to handspring to layout. Her legs do. not. bend in her front aerial and she showed oversplits in her leaps and jumps. Definitely in medal contention.
Germany
German senior Carina Kroell vaulted a front handspring front tuck ½ with a strong block off the table and decent landing.
On bars, Sidney Hayn trained a toe-front half-out dismount, Aiyu Zhu showed some nice sequences and a Tkatchev, but Lara Hinsberger really showed some strength. She does a clean Maloney ½, stalder ½ to a huge piked Jaeger, and a toe-front half-out dismount.
The German juniors also had some moments on beam. Emma Malewski’s choreography has real rhythm and is worth the watch. Hayn mounted with a clean loso, a solid side aerial and handspring loso, and a side somi.
