There's sad news coming out of Baton Rouge today. LSU junior McKenna Kelley ruptured her Achilles tendon during practice and will be out for the 2018 season. She will undergo surgery on Tuesday.
Kelley shared the news on Instagram with a heartfelt message to her friends, family, and fans. She is confident about her comeback and writes about standing strong in her faith with no fear of the future.
Tiger fans, I can promise you I will work my tail off be the best person, student, and athlete for this school.
Kelley earned first-team All-American and All-SEC honors last season, helping LSU to a record-breaking season. She will likely take a redshirt this year and return as a redshirt junior in 2019.
“McKenna was at the top of her gymnastics and has really worked hard to be the anchor and make the vault lineup,” head coach DD Breaux said. “In a year when we are replacing a great senior class she will be missed."
She is the spirit and emotional leader of our team. It is now a time for us to develop additional depth and see who will step up and carry the LSU flag.
We hope to see McKenna back in action later next year!
