FloGym Awards: 2017 World Championships Edition
Although the 2017 World Championships ended over a week ago, many of us are still living in that post-Worlds glow and continuing to relive exciting moments from the competition.
Although the 2017 World Championships ended over a week ago, many of us are still living in that post-worlds glow and continuing to remember exciting moments from the competition. To add to the list of official medal winners, we have put together our own list of awards from Montreal to highlight some of the most noteworthy moments. Check out our list below.
Although Canada's Brooklyn Moors did not win a medal at this worlds, she did win the Longines Prize for Elegance, an award based on "elegance, harmonious movement, and emotion during performances." One look at her floor routine and you can see why Moors deserves this award. Check out her routine from qualifications below, which also placed her into the floor final:

During the men's high bar final, Epke Zonderland, one of the best high bar workers in the world, performed a Kovacs release and nearly fell after only catching with one arm. Instead of falling, he swung through a giant to continue his exercise. There were a lot of good saves during worlds, but this one was by far the most impressive.

Zonderland's save obviously drew looks of shock from many people in the arena, but one of the best reactions captured was of his Dutch teammate Bart Deurloo, whose face showed what we were all feeling. Check out Bart's reaction below:
Without a doubt, Japan's Kenzo Shirai is the most impressive tumbler in the world. His skills include a triple twisting double layout, triple twisting double tuck, and a quadruple twist. Unsurprisingly, Shirai won the gold medal in the men's floor final with his outstanding routine. Not only are his skills big, but his execution is excellent as well, and he was also awarded the Longines Prize for Elegance this year for the men's side. USA's Jade Carey has risen to the top of elite gymnastics very quickly over the past year. A year ago, she was competing as a Level 10 gymnast, but was invited to the national team camp by Valeri Liukin and proved her worth from there. Carey has improved vastly since her time as an elite, making the national team earlier this year and then earning a spot on the worlds team. Not only that, but she qualified to both finals she was aiming for -- vault and floor, and won silver medals on both. Her floor routine best showcases her improvements this year:

Our most innovative award goes to the Chinese gymnasts, who showed everyone that chalk need not be wasted by using an upside-down umbrella to catch the chalk as they chalked the bar up. Even Liukin was impressed by this technique and mentioned in an interview that it would certainly help keep the gym cleaner. Check out a video of the technique below:
Those who know USA's Morgan Hurd know that she is a huge Harry Potter fan. Thanks to some fan intervention, people on Twitter alerted J.K. Rowling to the fact that Hurd had just won the all-around world championship title. The following Twitter interaction ensued, much to everyone's delight:
