Agrapides, Kocian and Chiles Win 2013 American Classic

First year junior elite Ariana Agrapides of MG Elite shocked the field in session two of the 2013 American Classic at the Karolyi Ranch with the top all around score of the day for both juniors and seniors. Madison Kocian of WOGA came away with the senior all around title, while Jordan Chiles of Naydenov won the junior all aroud crown for session one. 

Athletes at the American Classic were hoping to qualify to the 2013 P&G Championships in Hartford August 15-18, this year's National Championships. You can view a full breakdown of qualifying standards below. 

Agrapides totaled a 
56.250 all around score to win the session two all around title and easily advance to the P&G Championships. She also won the session 2 junior uneven bars title with a 13.550 and scored a huge 14.90 on vault to finish second. 

Just this week, Agrapides' MG Elite teammate and second year junior elite 
Laurie Hernandez was added to the U.S. Junior National Team after a successful training camp. Today, Hernandez fell on beam and was bested by her up-and-coming teammate. Hernandez, however, still finished second all around on the day with an impressive 55.90 all around score and won the floor title with a 14.90 (5.90 D score). 

First year elite Felicia Hano of West Coast Elite stole the show on vault, scoring a huge 15.250 (5.80/9.450) to win the event title. Hano finished third all around in session two with a 54.50 and advanced the the P&G Championships. 

Additional P&G Championship qualifiers out of session two: Emily Gaskins of Cincinnati Gymnastics, Grace Waguespack of ACE Gymnastics, Deanne Soza of Arete, Lauren Navarro of Charter Oak, Bridget Dean of Orlando Metro, Melissa Reinstadtler of Rebound, Lauren Farley of WOGA, Alexandra Marks of Bart Conner, and Lexy Ramler of Kidsport.

In session one, Madison Kocian posted a 55.20 to win the senior elite division and advance to Championships. Kocian is a former member of the U.S. Junior National team but missed a full year of competition due to injury. She returned to competition in February, winning the 2013 WOGA Classic elite qualifier and advancing the the Classic meets. Kocian finished 6th at the 2009 Visa Championships and 5th place in 2010. Now, Kocian is a first year senior international elite hoping to regain her place on the U.S. National team.

2010 U.S. Junior National team member and first year senior elite Ariana Guerra of Texas Dreams finished second all around but was just shy of Championships qualification. Guerra totaled a 53.70 all around score and won floor with a 13.450. Guerra and the remainaing senior competitors will have one more chace to qualify to Championships, July 27 at the Secret Classic.

Thanks to a 15.00 on vault, Jordan Chiles of Naydenov in Washington won the first session of the junior all around competition with a 54.750 to easily advance to Championships. As a first year level 10 in 2012, Chiles finished 16th all around, ninth on vault and seventh on uneven bars. She's spent the 2013 season focusing on elite training and it has paid off. 

Alyssa Baumann of WOGA finished second all around in session two with a 53.650. Ashley Foss of North Stars won beam (13.750) and floor (13.90) and finished 3rd all around with a 53.30. 

Samantha Ogden of WOGA won uneven bars with a 13.550 and finished 4th all around, also advancing to P&G Championships. 

Rounding out the P&G Championships Junior elite qualifiers from session one are Megan Skaggs of Gymnastics Academy of Atlanta, Molly Frack of Parkettes, and Abby Paulson of Twin City Twisters.

Ways for Senior Elites (Age 16 and Up) to Qualify to Championships: 
- Automatic: 2012 Olympic Team and designated Alternates 
- 54.00 AA, 3 Event=41.25, 2 Event =28.00 at 2013 Classic meet 
- National Team members at Team Training Camp (full routines on competition surfaces) or International Assignment

Ways for Junior Elites (Age 11-15) to Qualify to Championships:
- 51.50 at 2013 Classic meet or National Team members at Team Training Camp (full routines on competition surfaces) or International Assignment
