2013 SEC Awards Announced; Rheagan Courville Gymnast of the Year
The 2013 SEC gymnastics awards were released Friday afternoon on the eve of the 2013 SEC Gymnastics Championships in North Little Rock. LSU’s Rheagan Courville was named SEC Gymnast of the Year. Bridget Sloan of Florida was named SEC Freshman of the Year while Rhonda Faehn (Florida) garnered SEC Coach of the Year honors. Kim Jacob of Alabama was named SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

Gymnast of the Year: Rheagan Courville, LSU


LSU sophomore Rheagan Courville has been named the 2013 Southeastern Conference Gymnast of the Year.

Courville is the fourth LSU gymnast to capture the league’s top honor, joining April Burkholder who won it in 2004 and 2005, Ashleigh Clare-Kearney in 2008 and Susan Jackson in 2010.
 
An LSU gymnast has now earned gymnast of the year five times in the last 10 seasons.
 
A native of Baton Rouge, Courville leads the nation with eight all-around titles this season, and she leads the SEC in total individual titles this year with 21.
 
Courville ranks in the Top 25 nationally in every category as she is No. 5 on vault with a 9.930 RQS, No. 6 in the all-around at 39.530, No. 16 on floor at 9.90, No. 21 on beam at 9.875 and No. 25 on bars at 9.875.

Freshman of the Year: Bridget Sloan, Florida


Sloan is the first World All Around Champion to compete in NCAA Gymnastics and has made an enormous impact on the University of Florida team in her first season. 

In the latest national rankings, Sloan owns top 20 standings in four of the five events, including sharing first on bars with teammate Mackenzie Caquatto with regional qualifying scores of 9.945. Sloan is No. 2 in both all-around (39.590) and beam (9.910) as well as shares No. 17 in vault (9.905).


Scholar-Athlete of the Year: Kim Jacob, Alabama
 

Alabama junior Kim Jacob wins the SEC Scholar Athlete of the Year award for the second year in a row! She has a perfect 4.0 grade point average and is one of the nation's top all-arounders. She ranks top-five in the SEC on balance beam and floor and is a four-time All-American.


Coach of the Year: Rhonda Faehn, Florida
This marks the 4th consecutive SEC Coach of the Year honor for Caoch Faehn. The Gators are the defending SEC Champions and her team is currently ranked #1 Nationally, eyeing the program's first NCAA National Title.
